I’ve been searching high and low for a denim skirt that is:
- high waisted
- A-line shaped
- light wash
- not distressed or ripped
- long enough to still cover my butt when bending over
- short enough to give that girl next door flirty vibe
To my surprise, I found this very denim skirt that ticks all the boxes in Jay Jays. They even had a sweet as denim sale where I got 4 items for $40.
On the topic of great bargain buys, I found the above white shirt on sale as a faulty item because it was missing buttons.
I didn’t like the white fabric buttons it came with anyway so I decided to find ornamental jewel-style buttons to sew on myself.
I’m not gonna lie, these buttons that caught my eye were pricey. But also, this shirt made of a nice silky fabric that would otherwise be expensive was discounted. You win some you lose some.
Simply changing the buttons made this shirt look more expensive and classy.
I’ll make a separate post dedicated to this shirt in the future so you can see the difference a subtle change like this can make. Looking expensive is all about paying attention to the finer details.
Anyway, back to skirts. A-line skirts are the best because they naturally accentuate your waist. Add a fun waist belt to further enhance the hourglass silhouette.
If you like casual style, the mini denim skirt is an absolute wardrobe essential must.
It adds this instant cool girl factor to any outfit.
Even if you try to dress like a boy… you won’t be mistaken. The baseball cap and zip up hoodie pictured below are from the men’s section.
Denim is so easy to wear that even when you try to dress it up, it looks effortless.
Leather is a great match for denim. Try the classic combo with leather belts, shoes, bags etc.
Just be careful with brown boots and plaid button down shirts as it’s easy to look like a
cowboy cowgirl with these pairings – unless that’s what you’re going for, then rock it cowgirl!
- Rest your eyes
- Take a deep breath…inhale peace & exhale happiness
- Make a small wish for someone you love
- Get up & stretch your legs
- Hydrate & energise
- Set an intention to live your best life

In the outfit below, I chose a retro-style orange blouse to balance out the cowboy spirit of the lower half.
You can also drown out cowboy tones with girly colours and pieces that bring out your feminine power.
Or find a combination of these two styles in a feminine retro sweater to pair with your denim skirt.
Denim looks great in monochrome with blue. Go for light or dark, bright or muted, whatever tickles your fancy. It will all work.
Of course, white, black and grey also go.
When I pair mini skirts with sleeveless tops, I like to add light outer layers such as an oversized shirt or lightweight cardigan.
This adds nice coverage to the mini cut length of the skirt.
You can go even further by donning a pair of knee high boots.
I hope you found some new ideas for styling your mini denim skirt. I’d love to know how you like to style yours in the comments below.
